No One Had A Worse Trade Deadline Than The Colorado Rockies And Their Franchise Player Is Not Thrilled With What Happened

Alexa, show me the most disorganized and pathetic organization in sports. Yup, thats the Colorado Rockies. We saw what they did last offseason with arguably the best third baseman in the world in Nolan Arenado. Traded him to the Cardinals in a bizarre deal where they actually paid the Cardinals to take him. They knew they were going to run into this problem again with another great player in Trevor Story. With Story being a free agent after this year and saying he has 0 desire to re-sign with Colorado it made sense that the Rockies would try to trade him and bring back some prospects to replenish their farm system. So you'd think they would have traded him to a contender, someone like the Padres, Rays, Giants, Mets or Yankees......right? RIGHT?!?!?! RIGHT!!!!!??!?!?!??!?!

WRONG. The Rockies sat on their hands and held onto Story and pitcher Jon Gray. Instead of trading Story and loading up on prospects they decided to hold tight on their franchise player who has made it very clear he won't be coming back and does not like it in Colorado. Who knows exactly what the potential hauls would be for Story and Gray but it's clear the Rockies didn't like them and were fine with not trading them. That is an absolutely insane way to run a baseball team, it's almost like the Rockies front office doesn't give a shit about winning. You'd think a team that is clearly rebuilding and is 44-59 on the season would LOVE to unload some guys to build for the future. Nope, instead they're just going to offer Story and Gray qualifying offers and when they decline them they will get a competitive balance pick and will let Story walk. Why would any player want to sign an extension with a club who operates like this? No wonder this team has never won a World Series and is in bad shape. Look at what the Cubs and Nationals did, if you know you can't and won't compete for a few years, trade away pieces for assets in return. That is how you build your franchise, not with one competitive balance pick. What good does it do to have Story on the team for another 2 months? No wonder Arrenado wanted out of that place so bad.

Just look at the quotes from Story, that dude is not happy. And he shouldn't be. He was what, the second or third best trade piece in baseball? He thought he was going to be in San Diego, or San Francisco, or Tampa or New York playing for a World Series. Instead he gets to finish the season with the Rockies and be 25 games under. A lot of fan bases like to say their front office stinks, I think Colorado takes the cake for this. What a joke of an organization.
