The First Trailer For 'House Of Gucci' Is Here And It Is Going To RIP
The film is set in 1995 and depicts the events and aftermath of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, Italian businessman and head of the fashion house Gucci, by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.
This trailer didn't do a whole ton other than show us the movie is at least shot very well. I feel like most trailers these days have substituted the "IN A WORLD….." guy's narration with having a marquee song that they stylize for the trailer. 'Heart of Glass' is a great song, but also maybe a bit early (1978) for the time period this will be focusing on (late 80's to mid 90's). That said, I love how this looks, I love the cast, and I love the funny Italian accents. What's not to like!?
ICYMI, the real life story this based off of is NUTS. Basically, Maurizio Gucci(Driver) inherits Gucci from his father (Irons), sues his uncle (Pacino) for full control of the company. Rudy Giuliani was actually involved in the lawsuit as well, apparently. Maurizio becomes the director, and in a little over 10 years he had basically run the company right into the ground. He sold a big chunk of the company to an investment company, then cashed out a few years later. Fast-foward about a year and a half later, and he is gunned down while walking into his office in Milan.
His ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, is accused of hiring the hitman who killed him. She denies it completely, and shows up to every court hearing DECKED OUT in Gucci. It's eventually revealed that she did, in fact, hire the hitman, and it was partially because she suspected him of cheating on him while they were married and partially because of his running of Gucci into the dirt. She gets sent to prison, tries to commit suicide, and is eventually released for good behavior (she was apparently thrilled to hear that Gaga was playing her, but pissed off that Gaga didn't show up in person to get her thoughts on how to do the role.)
