Kyle Lowry And DeMar DeRozan Reportedly Want To Form A Super Team With LeBron And The Lakers

Remember when checks calendar two days ago we were all wondering if the Bucks winning the title and Giannis openly shitting all over any star player that chooses to form a super team as an easy way to a championship that things might change?

Maybe with the next generation of stars, but current older players are absolutely still on the super team bandwagon. Especially LeBron and especially older vets who may have not won before. That's not exactly the case with Lowry/DeRozan since Lowry got his own ring in Toronto already, but I think everyone should still expect that guys are going to want to team up in the near future.

Enter this report about both being interested in joining the Lakers. On one hand, it would be cool to see Lowry/DeRozan re-join forces. You had to feel for DeRozan that once he finally got traded out of Toronto they immediately won an NBA title. That stings. But this is kind of weird for a few reasons. For starters, the Lakers have essentially zero money to spend. They are left with vet minimum deals or the taxpayer MLE which is $5.8M. You might then say, well one of those teams can just do a sign and trade for Dennis Schroder! Let me ask you something. Does Masai Ujiri come off as an idiot to you? One of the best executives in the game is going to be down to pay Dennis Schroder a huge longterm contract? I don't think so. That also doesn't solve the issue of how the Lakers would land the other piece. DeRozan is also a UFA coming off making $27M a year. How is that going to work outside of him taking one of the most massive paycuts we've ever seen? Highly unlikely in my opinion.

There are going to be teams out there that offer both of these players much more money than what the Lakers can offer. Like, a lot more. Who knows, maybe both take league minimum in order to form this super team and play together again. DeRozan would go home and have his best chance at winning a ring, so I can see why he might be interested.

At the end of the day though, as awesome as it was to hear Giannis shit on super teams, they aren't going anywhere. If anything, after getting called out like that you know LeBron is going to tamper and recruit even harder. DeRozan, Lowry, Westbrook, CP3, it doesn't matter. You know he's not going to sit there and let Giannis shit all over him like that, basically calling his 2020 title fraudulent and easy without trying to do something.
