It’s Legitimately Laugh Out Loud Funny That Shohei Ohtani Played Right Field Tonight Immediately After Throwing 6 Scoreless Innings
I know the Angels lost and blah blah blah but I feel like literally every night this guy does something for the history books. He legit just threw 6 scoreless with 8 K’s then jogged out to right field like it was some shitty American Legion tournament in South-Central Illinois. And I mean that respectfully to American Legion and similar baseball programs everywhere. But that’s usually the level you stop seeing such a blatant double dip on the mound and in the field. Just as I’m starting to normalize this guy’s talent in my brain, he goes out and makes me question life again. How can someone be so good?
Qualified base stealer. Power threat. Hits for a high average in modern times. #1 starting pitcher with the kitchen sink. Extremely marketable and now playing right field because it’s his world and the rest of us are just living in it.
This would be like 2011 Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose being one basketball player. Brian Urlacher playing full time as a 3-down all pro tight end. Phil Jackson managing the Cubs to a World Series in his offseason. The more preposterous the hypothetical, the more relatable to Shohei Ohtani. And even saying that, I still think he’s underrated.
It’s hard to explain how unbelievable it is to me that he played right field after pitching tonight without me sounding extremely dramatic. You’ll think I’m being over the top. You’ll say I’m crazy. But I sincerely believe this puts Shohei on another level. Like this wasn’t some extra inning emergency bullshit. This was to keep him in the lineup because he’s that much better than the alternative. Damn shame they lost but be honest - nobody thought they’d be .500 without Mike Trout.
Thank Shohei for that. The legend grows each day. Pretty cool we were here to witness the history in real time because otherwise I wouldn’t believe it happened.
