Gary Sanchez and Luke Voit Save The Yankees Ass With a Wild Walk Off Win In The Bronx

Never a doubt. I mean just look at the win probability chart, easy as can be piece of cake W. 

Real talk, the Royals actively tried to hand the Yankees this game early by walking 11 batters through seven innings. ELEVEN WALKS. They had two runs to their name, trailing by a run entering the 8th. The Yankees refused to do anything with those free base runners until Rougned Odor connected on a two run shot to give New York the lead. 

I'm as far out on Rougned Odor as it gets and anyone watching this team should be too, but he's good for a big swing every three works or so. This was one of them and it was much needed. Does it buy him more time on this team? Possibly, but for the short term that swing was much appreciated. 

That blast allowed Aroldis Chapman to enter the game to try and close this one out. We are unfortunately in the midst of one of those periods where the Cuban Missile is misfiring badly. He comes in the game and you have to panic until the final out is recorded. Quite the opposite of how April and May went where he was actually unhittable. Yeah this shit isn't fun at the moment. 

A two out Whit Merrifield single put runners on the corners for Carlos Santana. Despite Chapman's career dominance against him, Boone ran out to the mound and convinced Aroldis to intentionally walk Santana, putting the tying run on 2nd and loading the bases. The hitter was backup catcher Sebastian Rivero who had yet to record a hit in his career. I guess in Boone's mind the inexperience and the moment were favorable matchups for Chapman. He did not factor in that a wild at bat could force in the go ahead run without Rivero swinging the bat. And that's exactly what happened. Rivero was walked on four pitches, none of which particularly close. Ryan O'Hearn then proceeded to beat out an infield single to 3rd to take the lead. Sadness. What a fucked series of events no two ways about it. A complete nightmare that Stephen King couldn't even come up with. 

Could the Yankees fight back in the bottom half of the inning? Tonight the answer was yes. 

It started with one of the hottest hitters in the league, Mr. Gary Sanchez. This dude is so fucking locked in right now it's amazing to watch. This ball was pissed on. Honestly didn't think off the bat live it had enough air under it to get out but I was proven wrong fortunately. 

He is still fucking Gary and he should be an All Star. 

Giancarlo then laced a single down the right field line and was pinch run for by Wade who reached 2nd on a wild pitch. That set the scene for Luke Voit in just his second game back. He had enough with this baseball contest and ended it with a rip off the left field wall. Ball game. 

I love that man so goddamn much even if he has no clue when he's actually hit a home run or not. Regardless, massive win. Head ache of a game no doubt, but you can't drop the first two games of the series to the Royals like that. Had to pull that out and they did. It was far from pretty, but it was necessary. 20th come from behind win of the year, just behind Boston for the most in baseball. Whatever, fine I'll take it.  At least I can fall asleep tonight and actually root for myself to wake up. For one night I wish they could just blow the doors off a team and just be good. These rollercoasters don't bode well for my heart. 

What I would do for a series win tomorrow on getaway day. For sure asking too much.
