The Crowd Going Bananas For American Swimmer Jake Mitchell Racing Against Himself Is The Most Electrifying Moment In Swimming Since Phelps

Jake Mitchell is a sophomore at Michigan who is attempting to spend his summer break in Tokyo for the 2020(21) Olympics. In order to qualify for the olympics, swimmers have to hit a certain time. For the 400 free, that time is 3:46:78.

He raced the 400 free on Sunday and came in 2nd place, but was a few seconds behind the qualifying time. So even after placing 2nd in the qualifying finals, it was looking like Jake Mitchell was gonna have to find himself a job for the summer since he'd have a little more free time than expected.

But just the thought of putting together a resume was a daunting task for Jake Mitchell. He didn't want to have to go through the application process. He didn't want to go through the interviews, the call backs, the first day orientation and training, and then dealing with whatever shit head boss was waiting for him. So instead of settling for a summer job, he decided to race again. But this time just against himself to try to beat that qualifying time. And by god, the sick bastard did it.

And Omaha was buzzing.

That's some rockstar shit right there. Like sure, it may not be a sold out arena. But for one guy to be racing against himself in the water and get all those people in there off their asses and cheering? That could have gone so much differently. Jake Mitchell could have climbed out of that water a few seconds shy of the qualifying time and everybody would have been super bummed and the place would have been dead silent as everybody shuffled to the aisle to leave and go home. But instead he tears the roof off that bitch like only a rockstar would know how. Haven't seen that type of buzz since Rio Phelps.
