Does "Nesting" Mean You're Having a Mid Life Crisis?

"This urge to clean and organize is known as nesting. Nesting during pregnancy is the overwhelming desire to get your home ready for your new baby. The nesting instinct is strongest in the later weeks coming upon delivery. It is an old wives' tale that labor is about to come on once nesting urges begin." - Americanpregnancy.org

Slap the donkey and kick a nun, my daughter will be here soon! My wife and I went to the doctor last week to make sure my baby girl is doing ok. By the grace of God, she's holding strong. With my wife being 35 weeks pregnant, time seems to be moving faster than a politician in a whore house. When we were preparing to bring my first child home, prepping the nursery was awesome. Everything was an emotional milestone. Picking out the crib, deciding what wallpaper to put up in the nursery to baby cameras. You name it, we fucking bought it. My son was born in February, but by Thanksgiving, his room was complete. I usually get up around six in the morning to throw some weight around.  Before I took off, I walk into my son's room to grab some heat rash cream and out of nowhere, it hit me. We haven't prepared for her arrival. Then this overwhelming rush of anxiety hit me. We gotta get our ass moving.

Now I heard of pregnant women nesting before, but do men nest? Life has really cranked up the temperature on me. I'm not gonna rule out that I've been stressed due to multiple reasons.

One…. My wife is over being pregnant, and I had to jump in the shower with her and help Nair off the Chaka Kan-looking bush she was growing between her legs.

Two… I don't mean to be redundant, but nobody gives a shit about working anymore. I have people ask for a job, hire them, and train them; within a day, they quit. Some even show up requesting vacation days. It's insane what's going on right now. Before the pandemic, people couldn't find work. Thank God for my brother. He's been able to hold down the fort so I can spend more time at home looking after my wife and son, who by the way is currently moving around like a mad man.

Three… Do the terrible two's come early because this kid doesn't give a fuck!  His smile rights every wrong, which leads to my wife and me being the suckers.

Whether it's nesting or stress, I'm excited about her arrival. I already feel different, for some reason. I have the urge to watch Frozen and buy a Barbie Dream House. I've learned life is about transitions and perspectives. It's not about what she doesn't have, it's more about giving her what I received from my parents as a child. A home filled with love, life lessons, and fun times.
