You could make a case that he was barely the 5th best player on the Mavs for the series. Luka, Finney-Smith, Hardaway were all better. Boban arguably provided more. I've never been more happy to see a guy that was originally beloved by Knicks just gone. Now, I refuse to acknowledge that Phil did anything right, but he was right about moving Kristaps. It saved the Knicks franchise. I'm not even joking about that. If the Knicks had to pay Kristaps the max, they'd be stuck as one of the 3-5 worst teams in the league. Instead they made the playoffs and lost to a clear powerhouse Atlanta Hawks. 

But go back and look at those quotes from the story. Kristaps is cooked. He wants to be a star. He's not a star. He wants to be on the same level as Luka, but he's not. He's an awful defender now, which was one of his calling cards. The fact that he's a big that can shoot is even losing its luster. Do you know how many bigs are coming into the NBA with that skill set? So now you have a guy who was supposed to be a rim protector and good defender suck there and the value of having just him that can shoot? Shame. Oh and you can't trade him because no one wants that contract.
