I Have An Idea Pro Baseball Cannot Pass Up This Summer
Baseball, especially in the dead of summer, is all about fan nights.
How do we get fans to the ballpark when there are tons of other options to do with this beautiful weather? May the fourth Star Wars night. "Bark at the Park" to bring your dog. Fireworks on Friday's. Kids eat free night and the list goes on, and on, and on.
As I was watching the Cubs beat the Padres last night I thought of this. One, because I've always wanted to get thrown out of a big league game, and two, well I am a sucker for the ways your local Double A team's marketing group figures out ways to get folks to the park.
So here it is: "Sauced & Tossed". One night a month a team holds a contest for one lucky fan to be able to throw on the uniform, get an up close and personal experience of the game in the dugout, and have access to unlimited beers after the first pitch has been thrown until the game is completed. All with the idea to 1.) give a fan access and an experience like none other and 2.) to draw eyeballs and engagement to your ballpark and team for at least one big night.
"C'mon, you can't have someone that close to the field drinking that many beers!"
Oh yeah? You mean like the bachelor party sitting in the front row behind third base already pounding at least a beer an inning? Or how about that group of kids on college night sitting behind home plate five vodka redbulls deep for first pitch flashing shocker signs to the camera.
"We can't encourage that much drinking at a game!"
Right...not like every minor league park has a Thirsty Thursday deal or get $10 off with your college ID night. Plus, perfect to strike a deal with Uber or Lyft for the same night. "Sauced & Tossed Night Presented By Lyft" sounds pretty good to me.
I honestly can't believe I'm laying this out for the Minor League organizations across the country right now for free.
Baseball has a problem keeping fans engaged or staying for the entirety of one whole ballgame. Not on Sauced & Tossed night. The anticipation would only grow with each inning waiting for the fan of the night to come flying out of the dugout. Managers / players getting ejected, fights, and fans running on the field are the three most exciting things that can happen at a baseball game.
Mix two of the three of those together with booze on top of it and you have yourself one memorable night at the ballpark.
