Relatable: Cameron Smith Had To Apologize To His Girlfriend For Refusing To Shave His Mullet After Winning The Zurich Classic
Every Thursday to Sunday each week I sit here watching golf hoping to see a few things. I want to see guys blade chips, hit a duck hook and look like me out there. I want to see a Sunday duel. I eventually want to see Tony Finau win one of these things. The poor guy has to win at some point. But this might be the most relatable I've ever seen a golfer. Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman won the Zurich Classic this past week. It's one of my favorite events because it's the only team event of the year. I like seeing the different set up with match play in Austin and then the team event. Mix it up you know.
But you see Cameron Smith had the most relatable moment because he broke a promise to his girlfriend. He promised her that if he won an event he'd shave his mullet. He's not doing that. How could he? The mullet is part of him.
I'm convinced he finished top-10 at the last two Masters strictly because of flow. Anyone in a relationship has done this though. You promise your significant you'll get rid of something terrible (awesome) if something good happens. It could be facial hair, it could be hairstyle, it could be a lucky t-shirt or anything. You know you're not getting rid of it though. You just prep for the fight and deal with having to apologize. It's worth it. Look at the difference between the two Cameron Smith's:
You can't go back to that short hair! That mullet is majestic. The man is 27 years old with top-25 finishes in all 4 majors. He's finished 2nd in the Masters and 4th in the US Open. He has 3 PGA Tour wins - twice at the Zurich Classic. Those numbers only go up the better mullet he has. Whatever you do, Cameron, don't get rid of it.
