Illinois Rep. Is Proposing A "Grand Theft Auto Ban" Because Apparently A Video Game Is The Cause Of The Huge Spike In Carjackings In Chicago

(ABC Chicago)

An Illinois lawmaker has a new response to the recent surge in carjackings around the Chicago area -- banning a popular video game.

State Rep. Marcus Evans said during a press conference Monday morning in south suburban Olympia Fields that video games are contributing to the carjacking surge across the area.

"Grand Theft Auto," which had its first installment released back in 1997, is the main issue, he said.

Evans said he plans to introduce a bill to ban sales of the game in Illinois.

"'Grand Theft Auto' and other violent video games are getting in the minds of our young people and perpetuating the normalcy of carjacking," Evans said. "Carjacking is not normal and carjacking must stop."

When I saw this headline yesterday, for a split second I thought to myself, "wait, grand theft auto isn't already illegal? Is that why there have been so many armed carjackings lately? We just never told those thugs you can't stick a gun in someone's face and say 'give me your keys'? What the fuck planet am I on??"

But nope; armed carjackings are very much illegal and the article is not talking about actual car jackings; they're talking about a video game.

... a video game. I couldn't believe my eyes when this fucking asshole Rep. Marcus Evans, an elected official paid to make decisions, was talking about a fucking VIDEO GAME when trying to rationalize why car jackings have gone up a billion percent over the last few weeks and months. It made my fucking HEAD explode. Straight up Chapelle Show style:

I'm sure it has nothing to do with a global pandemic that has rendered a fuck ton of people jobless. Or our officials who refuse to persecute violent crimes like armed carjackings with anything more than a soft slap on the wrist. Or literally anything else other than a video game… like kids not being in school when it's a scientific fucking FACT that HS age kids are pretty much safe from this virus. Instead we're worried about forming committees to talk about fucking statues and goddamn video games right now.

It's sickening. In the same realm, I have a good friend who's a Narc on the west side. Dude has told me a lot of fucked up stories, but over the years he says crime is getting worse and worse over there. Told me about a year ago that he had started letting people go that have guns, hard drugs, etc. because he doesn't want his picture on the front page of The Trib for using his gun if he deems it necessary. Instead he'll detain a dude with a hand gun that has the serial number filed off or bags of heroin on them and many times, if he thinks there's even a chance that it will start to get violent, he'll just let them go. It's complete and total bullshit that it's come to that, but it has. I don't know what other options he has as I'm obviously not trained as a cop, but he says it's that fucked up a system these days and is only getting worse. That's the world we're living in.

But nope!!! It's all a video game's fault.

Fucking assholes. I hate our leadership more and more every day.
