Rumors Say Jennifer Lawrence Is Headed Down To Australia To Film The New 'Fantastic Four' Movie - Could She Be The MCU's Sue Storm?!
Alright, so take this with a grain of salt, because it's from the Daily Mail UK (which is a complete tabloid, as far as I know), but according to them, Jennifer Lawrence is headed down to Australia NEXT MONTH to start shooting the new 'Fantastic Four' movie....
Daily Mail UK - Australia has become the go-to destination for A-list stars and massive Hollywood film productions in the past year, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Tinseltown exodus Down Under continues next month, when Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is expected to arrive to film the latest Fantastic Four film, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The paper reports that the Marvel superhero film franchise is set to 'bed down' in Australia 'for the foreseeable future'.
Currently in production in Sydney is the new Thor: Love and Thunder film, starring Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Matt Damon and Chris Pratt.
This news is quite shocking - and hard to believe - in my opinion for a few reasons.
For starters, I'm pretty sure that Jon Watts - the director of the MCU's 'Fantastic Four' film - is still shooting 'Spider-Man 3' while we speak based on how Tom Holland has been talkin about it....
Friend of the program Justin Kroll - who is easily one of the biggest/best film reporters in the industry - also confirmed earlier this week that 'Fantastic Four' hasn't even hired a writer yet….
….so unless they're wingin it and shooting the new 'Fantastic Four' improv-style down there in Australia - I highly doubt that this story is entirely true.
Could it be partially true, however? That's what I'm kinda skeptical about.
What if Jennifer Lawrence IS headed down to Australia next month to make her debut as 'The Invisible Woman' Susan Storm….in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'? Or what if she's being brought in to film a quick post-credits scene for the next 'Spider-Man', being Jon Watts is at the helm of both (and they already have some big productions set up down there)? I'm not saying I believe this is true, necessarily, but I just figure - where there's smoke, there's fire; and this rumor had to start somewhere.
Plenty of fans jumped down the throat of this possible casting immediately, citing Lawrence's open-hatred towards playing Mystique (or putting on the makeup, at least) by the end of her time on the 'X-Men' franchise….
….but I think there were much bigger issues at play with those X-Men flicks than Lawrence's obviously phoned-in performance as Mystique. She shouldn't have been pushed to the forefront of them in the first place - I think Mystique's overuse/overexposure after Lawrence became an A-list actress was one of the main problems with the direction they took there - but I digress.
Personally, I look at Jennifer Lawrence in 'Silver Linings Playbook', or 'American Hustle', or 'Winter's Bone', or 'Joy', or 'The Hunger Games' series, and I see someone totally capable of pulling off a Sue Storm in the MCU if she goes into it motivated and puts her heart into it. There's undoubtedly other actresses I'd rather see in the role (Saoirse Ronan? Emily Blunt? Olivia Wilde?), but I really wouldn't hate the casting of Lawrence at all if this winds up being true.
I don't buy the narrative that Marvel wouldn't hire her because they like "creating stars", either….we're talking about the franchise who just brought on Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon, Christian Bale, and Mahershala Ali - and the franchise who are about to give Mjolnir to Natalie Portman, making her 'The Mighty Thor'.
Basically, what I'm trying to say here is this: No, Jennifer Lawrence isn't headed down to Australia to film 'Fantastic Four' next month, but maybe there IS something to this rumor, and she's headed down there to play Sue Storm in a different Marvel movie?!
