Are We Going To See Captain America's Funeral On 'The Falcon And The Winter Soldier' Next Month?
Earlier today, new promotional images were released from 'The Falcon And The Winter Solider' - which premieres on Disney+ on March 19th - and one shot featuring Sam Wilson with Cap's shield (in the upper right hand corner above) seems to be catching many eyes for the same reason....
It certainly looks like a shot taken from a pre/post-funeral scene; and that could very well be Captain America's funeral scene.
From the suit, to the old furniture in that room, to the gravitas of that gaze down at the shield from Anthony Mackie - it all adds up. I'm worried we may see the end for old man Steve Rogers in this series.
At the conclusion of 'Avengers: Endgame', Steve took all of his fellow Avengers by surprise when he traveled to a branch reality to live out a life with Peggy Carter after returning the Infinity Stones from where they got em earlier. He then returned old - and not just frozen in ice old, like before; actually old (with wrinkles and stuff) - and decided to pass his shield onto Sam.
Anthony Mackie told our guys on Lights Camera Barstool, however, that Sam doesn't really accept it….
Falcon doesn't just instantly become 'Captain America' in that moment to fill the void that Steve Rogers has left, you know? I think he's gotta earn that title….even though part of me thinks he won't even want to at first. It's a tough mantle to live up to, after all.
That's why I think something - possibly the death of Steve Rogers - is gonna have to inspire him to choose otherwise by the end of the season. It'll be like Jon Snow becoming Lord Commander of the Night's Watch or something and lean on those narratives about the best leaders always being the ones who don't WANT the job, but the ones who step up when somebody has to, right?
Regardless of whether or not this theory pans out (and if it does, it's gonna be waterworks from ya boi), I'm tremendously excited for this show - ESPECIALLY after seeing the quality of WandaVision. I think it's gonna be really great.
