TikTok Is Trying To Cancel David Letterman Over An Interview He Did With Lindsay Lohan Eight Years Ago

Source - A 2013 interview between David Letterman and Lindsay Lohan has resurfaced on TikTok, leading to widespread criticism of the talk show host’s treatment of the actress.

On Feb. 5, user @calabasaswings shared the uncomfortable interview in which Letterman, then in his 10th season as host of The Late Show with David Letterman, pesters Lohan about going to rehab. At the time, Lohan’s experience with substance use disorder was highly publicized — she was convicted twice of drunken driving and once for cocaine use in 2007, and was in and out of rehab in the subsequent years.

The Video:

In the shortened clip that @calabasaswings posted, Letterman attempts to joke around about Lohan’s admittance to rehab, much to the Mean Girls star’s dismay. Unsurprisingly, TikTok users slammed the way Letterman handled the interview.

I purposefully left out the comments where TikTok users "slam" Letterman because they have no frame of reference. The people commenting were toddlers when this interview came out and don't even know who David Letterman is or what his relationship with Lindsay was like. They simply saw a sixty second clip and decided to rip the guy apart. None of them mentioned the last three minutes of the interview where Lindsay and Letterman fawn over each other. Where she thanks him for being sweet, where he commends her for her courage, and where they share a series of tender, genuine, emotional moments leading up to the sharing of her clip. You can watch that here...

That's the problem with internet cancelings- they're rarely valid and almost always reactionary. The good news is, I guarantee Letterman has no idea what's going on. He doesn't use the internet and currently lives in the woods of Montana like the weirdo that he is. I bet Lindsay doesn't give a shit either considering the interview was EIGHT YEARS AGO. Life goes on, TikTok. Stick to dancing videos and don't ruin the platform. Thanks. Now here's Letterman's final monologue for you to enjoy…
