There Is A Wakanda Series In The Works From 'Black Panther' Director Ryan Coogler

The Walt Disney Company has extended its relationship with Black Panther director and co-writer Ryan Coogler. Disney has made a five-year overall exclusive television deal with Coogler’s Proximity Media, which he runs with principals Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis and Peter Nicks. Coogler, who is working on the Black Panther feature sequel he will direct this year, will develop new television series for the studio. The first one will delight Black Panther fans: a drama based in the Kingdom of Wakanda for Disney+. The deal also enables Proximity to develop television for other divisions of the Company

One of the best parts of 'Black Panther' was the rich and interesting world they were able to build around the character. The world of Wakanda was still only partially explored by the end of the movie, with a lot of history and conflict teased by the end of it. While I'm sure the sequel is still going to rule despite not having Chadwick Boseman (Rest in Peace to a great actor and even better person), I think this is actually the avenue I would prefer for continuing the story.

Ryan Coogler is an awesome storyteller, so breaking free of the time limitations of a movie should make for some incredible plot lines, character development, and setup for future projects. Also, if the production quality is as high as the other Marvel mini-series, we could be in for a real treat.

Also, there have been rumors forever that Killmonger would be brought back into the fold somehow. If you ask me, he is a top 5 villain in the MCU and easily one of the most 3 dimensional. I'd love to see more about his father (played by Sterling K. Brown) and his life in Wakanda. The struggle of Wakanda for self-preservation over the centuries at the cost of their fellow Africans fate was complex and could definitely use more fleshing out.
