The Progressive "Don't Become Your Parents" Commercials Haven't Missed Once
It's everyone's nightmare to turn into their parents, though I'm not sure why as most of our patriarchs are pretty good folks, and nothing does a better job of articulating that than these commercials. Every time one of these pop on during football it's like a nice SNL skit, a good reprieve from the on-field carnage for a couple of laughs. I hope they never stop. I want 10,000 of these commercials.
- falling asleep on the couch then waking up and telling everyone they should go to bed even though you're the only one who's tired
- calling people over to the window to look at a squirrel/bird/deer/whatever outside
- recommending newspaper articles to read
- backing into parking spots
- leaving notes when you leave the house even though cell phones exist
- telling people they'll be too cold or too hot when the get outside because of what they're wearing
- insisting guests eat more
- make people list the high and low point of their day
- insisting that the light you're in isn't bright enough to be reading and you're gonna go blind
- force people to go to the bathroom before leaving their house
- anyone who's even slightly emotional needs a chill pill
The possibilities are endless. And yes, if those are all a little too specific it's because they're things my parents do that I now do.
