I Am No Longer The Only Player To Wear Number 73 For The Caps. Conor Sheary Has Big Skates To Fill.

Today I found out Conor Sheary chose to wear number 73 for the Caps. Obviously he was 43 on the Pens, but a certain Stanley Cup champion Tom Wilson currently occupies that sweater, and probably will be the last Capital to do so as well. Yes I am suggesting the Caps will one day retired SCCTW's number. I don't think that's a bold statement to make. Best goal scorer in the league, future captain, 20 year pro, and upstanding member of the community. I definitely see his 43 hanging from the rafters one day.

But the thing about Conor Sheary wearing 73 is nobody has ever worn that number for the Caps, besides me, in every NHL video game from 1995-2012. I stopped playing video games around 2012 because I was too busy banging chicks, you know how it be. So when I saw that clip today of Sheary sniping with the 73 on his back, for a second I thought it was Barstool Nate out on the ice. I've never seen someone else wear 73 for the Caps. I was so confused. It'd be like if someone else besides Ovi was wearing number 8 and taking one timers from the circle. I had to do a double take to make sure it was actually Conor Sheary and that I was still a blogger in my bed, and that we didn't do some freaky Friday type of switch. To be fair I'm not completely convinced that we didn't, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

How do I feel about the former Penguin taking my number? You know what, I'm ok with it. I had many 100 point seasons, won multiple Stanley Cups, and have a closet full of Hart Trophies from my time in DC. I forged a huge legacy as a 99 overall wearing that number and now Sheary will carry on 73's legacy the best he can. Sure he has big skates to fill, but I think he's up to the challenge. He was brought in to help us win another Stanley Cup, and if the 73 is carved onto the Cup, it's as much mine as it is his.

So take care of the 73. From Eric Nathan of Columbia, Maryland to Conor Sheary of Winchester, Mass, some would argue it is the most hallowed number in Washington Capitals history. Namaste.
