John Mulaney Has Checked Into Rehab For Cocaine/Alcohol Abuse

Comedian John Mulaney has checked into rehab for 60 days for alcohol and cocaine addiction.

A source exclusively confirmed to Page Six that the 38-year-old golden boy of comedy checked into a Pennsylvania rehab facility this past weekend.

The source said, “John’s friends and family are happy that he’s finally getting some help and focusing on his health."

“His fans know he’s struggled in the past with sobriety, he has talked about it openly. Unfortunately he has struggled again during the pandemic. He’s on board with his recovery, he’s not fighting against rehab.”

Damn. First of all, great for John Mulaney checking into a facility when he needs help. Admitting you aren't in control of yourself takes a ton of pride swallowing, and for someone like John Mulaney, I can't imagine it was a super easy decision.

At the same time, DAMN. Right? I have no idea why I never thought of this as a possibility before. John Mulaney is my #1 favorite comedian, and FIRMLY became #1 after this skit specifically:

He's used his own stories of alcohol/drug abuse in the past in a TON of his work. The way he presents himself always seems so casual, like he's telling stories from a million years ago. Nothing that could EVER happen in real life. And then I see a headline, after knowing he's been sober for however many years, that he's headed back for some more help. It brings you down to earth, especially when you admire someone. You admire them for the entertainment they give you, but does anyone ever ask...Hey, does John want to be funny today? Does John want to stand up on stage and spill all his guts and most personal stories out to millions of people and then act completely fine afterwards, all while battling the urge to do drugs all day long to self medicate?? Probably not! Guy needs a fucking break. He's made mistakes before, he's making some more. We all do it, pandemic aside.

Selfishly looking forward to his recovery, so he can tell us all about rehab. I feel like he would be okay with me saying that out loud.
