Dwayne Haskins Is Starting At QB On Sunday

And hereeee we gooooooo. Dwayne Haskins is back under center as the starting quarterback for our Washington Football Team. What a year it's been for him. Week 1 starter, then replaced by Kyle Allen and dropped to 3rd string/deactivated, a return to the backup role after Kyle Allen got hurt and Alex Smith became the starter, and now back to QB1 with Alex Smith on the mend. A roller coaster to say the least.

But now it's his time to shine. It's truly now or never. The NFC East is still ours for the taking

and a win vs Seattle would almost put a clamp on it.

Now, here's the thing- this isn't a must-win. Let's say Haskins stinks. Like, STINKS STINKS. Take the L, Alex comes back for the final 2 games vs Carolina and Philly, finish 8-8, and win the division. But a win? Boy, it'd be HUGE. And if Haskins plays well, would allow us to sort of take a deep breath about what to do at the QB position moving forward. Could get another year out of Alex Smith, let Haskins continue to develop, and then hand him the reigns in 2022.

I want to see Haskins succeed very badly. I'm often asked "why?". And I think it's simple- why not? He's our guy. There's nothing I want more than for a local kid, first round pick, to come to Washington and set the world on fire. Also, I think it's crazy how quick people write off QBs. It's the hardest job in the world, it should take more than 5-10 games to find out if a guy is good or not. Drew Brees was TERRIBLE when he came into the league. Peyton Manning was an INT machine. Aaron Rodgers sat and learned. Not every QB comes in as a rookie and is an MVP. In fact, very few are. So I think a guy with tools like Haskins who has shown flashes can develop, and I want to see it happen. If it doesn't, oh well, but I hate writing a guy off so early.

So Sunday will be a big day. Sucks that he won't have Antonio Gibson to rely on, so hopefully J.D. McKissic is ready to step up again and go crazy. I'm looking forward to seeing how Haskins plays, this is a huge game and we need his absolute best.
