Even When The Cowboys Win, They Really Lose

I can barely even type. I am stunned. What did I just watch?

A Cowboys defense that forced THREE fumbles? I don’t care if it was against the 2-9-1 Bengals… it was still befuddling to watch live in action. I mean, by the end of the first quarter, Cincinnati had benched both their starting RB and his backup because they just could not hold onto the rock.

And it was largely those three Bengals fumbles (almost 4) that won the Cowboys the game. Outside of a couple of FGs and some garbage points by Pollard that came on a late 4th down stop, Dallas’ only real points came off of turnovers.

Let’s be real. The Cowboys should have lost this one not only from a statistics standpoint but from a strategic one as well.

We KNOW that the loser of this game all but sealed up the #3 spot in the draft… and with Tyron Smith most likely retiring after this season, since he can’t seem to stay healthy for more than a few weeks in any given season, would set Dallas up to draft Penei Sewell (GO DUCKS) who has only given up 1 sack in 1400 snaps.

Is that good?

But no, this is a team that believes (correctly actually) that they can still win the NFC East no matter how badly they’d get the doors beaten off of them in the Wild Card game, and damn it if they are not going to try.

And that’s how horribly, horribly bad the entire division is. The Giants already lost, Philadelphia will get curb stomped by the Saints, and who the fuck knows what WFT will show up? Dallas could easily gain an entire game on the whole damn division.

Andy Dalton was 16-23 for 185 and a pair of touchdowns in his return, which is pretty much his slash line for most of the games he played in Cincinnati. Only this time he didn’t inexplicably throw a pair of INTs, which explains in large part why the Cowboys won. Amazing shit happens when you win the turnover battle.

This is a team so frustrating, that even when they win, it’s the incorrect move. I know that it’s bad juju to root for your team to lose, but god damn it I just want to see this team accumulate either a top pick for Sewell or trade back to get more capital and draft for depth. We know Jerry has no interest in paying safeties… so it’s gotta happen in the first or second round this year if it’s not Sewell.

Speaking of accumulating positions of need… I have an idea. Trade Zeke and trade Michael Gallup ASAP rocky for players in the secondary and perhaps someone on the offensive line that is on an expiring contract. Pollard looks more than ready to step into a starting role and it’s very clear that the one position the Cowboys have in excess is at wide receiver.

Next week we have the 49ers flexed out of prime time to the 1:00 slot. Shoot me now.
