ESPN Is Going To Make People Hate Zion Williamson
If you've been on Twitter this week and you like the NBA, you've probably seen ESPN's Top 100 list for this season. It comes out every year, and every season it seems to get more and more outrageous. It's very clear that it's meant to be so bad on purpose so that everyone talks about it, so in that aspect I guess it's a success. What you should not be doing is taking it as any sort of fact. For example, they had Tyler Herro like 30 spots above DeMar DeRozan, who just put up 22/5/5 on over 50% shooting. His reaction was pretty much the same as anyone else who saw it
Well they are back at it today, this time in regards to Zion Williamson. There is no denying the man was a force in his 24, yes that's right, 24 games last season
But of course ESPN can't just let us enjoy the unique talent of Zion. They have to ruin him. What an asshole thing to do putting him 19th. Look at some of those names he's ranked ahead of! It's OK to think Zion has a bright future and is a beast, while also not doing shit like this. Why can't we just see what he does when he actually plays? Maybe he will end up being a top 20 player, but after 24 games? Stop it.
I get it. ESPN has a hard on for Zion just like they do for LeBron. They know Zion = eyeballs. But they are also ruining the Zion experience. Shit like this is going to cause so many people to hate on Zion, call him overrated, and take away some of the joy that watching Zion brings. That's so annoying. I get it, Paul George had the worst bubble playoffs ever, but he's still shown to be an All NBA/MVP candidate at his peak. Jamal Murray just had an INCREDIBLE bubble run. Russell Westbrook just made an All NBA team this year! KAT just averaged 26.5/10.8/4.4 while shooting 41% from three making over 3 3PM a night! He's just as bad on defense as Zion too so explain how Zion is a top 20 player but KAT isn't?
Watching Zion is awesome. What he does on the basketball court does not make any sense whatsoever. He's incredibly exciting and if he stays healthy will for sure be the future of the league. So naturally, ESPN has to ruin it. They can't help themselves. God forbid we enjoy a generational talent without taking things WAY too far.
The worst part is none of this is Zion's fault. He just wants to play. Finally, his team is lifting all his restrictions so hopefully he does turn into the beast we all think he will be. But for crying out loud can we not ruin the Zion experience before it even really gets started? Is that too much to ask?
