62 Year Old Larry Mize Was One Of The Best Stories at Augusta National Today

What a day from ol' Larry Mize at Augusta National today. Every single year at the Masters we all joke about seeing old man Larry out there with the young superstars, just out there for a stroll and an early exit. But not this year. Larry has come to fucking play. The 1987 Master winner, who has missed the cut 15 times in the last 19 Masters, fired a 2-under 70 today putting himself right in the mix on day 1 of the tournament. I mean, Larry Mize tied a guy named Bryson DeChambeau today.

By the way, this blog was going to have a LOT more juice if Bryson didn't play a PHENOMENAL final hole to get to 2 under as it would give me the opportunity to say Larry Mize is beating Bryson DeChambeau at Augusta National but whatever, still impressive.

Those numbers are startling, especially with how long the course played. A lot of people, myself included, have spent the last couple weeks talking about the length of Bryson and how he was going to turn Augusta into a mini-golf course and then all of a sudden Larry Fucking Mize and his 146mph ball speed proves that at Augusta, if you know your way around the property it really doesn't matter, anything can happen.

What a great story. Larry Mize just loves to play the game of golf. No matter how many times he gets cut from this tournament he just comes back the next year… and why not? Sure, he hasn't had a good run recently…

But take a couple minutes and watch this video on what this tournament means to Larry…

Awesome stuff. If I had the opportunity to play in the Masters every single year I would do it until I died. I'd literally want to die on the course.

The leaderboard is starting to shape up with some big names through round 1 but let's just keep an eye on Larry tomorrow and see if he can keep this up and get himself to the weekend. Go Larry Go.
