Aaron Rodgers Talking About Being Starstruck Meeting Alex Trebek For The First Time Is So Awesome
It's been Alex Trebek week here at Barstool Sports and in my mind there are not enough blogs to be published on this legend. Give me all of the stories about this man. One that caught my eye was an Aaron Rodgers interview with Packers beat writer Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. I knew Rodgers was an intelligent fella, but I didn't know he was a Jeopardy nut as well. Sure he went on celebrity jeopardy once and dusted Mr. Wonderful, but this dude either watched every episode live or had them recorded for later on. It wouldn't shock me if Rodgers kept score at home every night.
I mean literally, I’ve told friends of mine and people that come and visit and people I’ve dated, six o’clock at my house, is “Jeopardy!” And that’s just the way it goes. I’ve watched it for years and, sadly, he’s gone.
The best part of this interview was Rodgers talking about being star struck by Trebek. When you get to 12's stature in the world it's got to be damn near impossible to make him nervous meeting another person, unless I guess it's a family member. Rodgers is a superstar with an even keel demeanor, but meeting the host of Jeopardy made his stomach churn over.
I think to be starstruck, it has to be a combination of not just really having a connection to somebody deep and meaningful and nostalgic, but when you meet that person, they have the presence and the charisma that you kind of hoped they would, and he definitely did. I was so excited, trying to keep it together and act like it wasn’t the huge deal that it was to me on the inside.
He was very personable, just all the things that make you feel like he cares about the conversation. I’m talking about old school stuff. I’m talking about shaking your hand and looking you in the eye. I’m talking about eye contact and the conversation. Just the stuff that makes you feel important that I think we often forget about in society because we’re so damn distracted all the time. I felt like he was so present in the moment and I appreciated it.
I mean that's just all so cool to me. Rodgers acting like a little kid meeting his hero while Trebek was as personable and real as he appeared on TV. You think it's just us common folk who appreciated Alex Trebek, but then you find out guys like Aaron Rodgers were watching at home with us the whole time. I love getting this kind of insight on Rodgers. Schneidman does a helluva job in Green Bay getting these kind of scoops. Go Pack Go.
