Chris Pratt Is Teaming Up With The Russo Brothers And Wu Jing For A "Buddy Cop" Movie

Universal Pictures has made a deal to craft a new version of Saigon Bodyguards. The studio will make a high-octane action comedy based on the Vietnamese film of the same name. Chris Pratt, fresh from wrapping Jurassic World: Dominion for Universal, is attached to star in the film with Wu Jing, the star of the blockbuster Chinese franchise Wolf Warrior.

Saigon Bodyguards focuses on two pals, one a straight arrow and the other a doof, who try to find a corporate heir who got kidnapped right under their noses. The plot thickens from there.

The world is sorely missing Buddy Cop movies, so this is tremendous news. And yes, I am taking some liberties calling it a buddy cop movie despite them playing bodyguards, but buddy cop is a vibe more than anything, really. This movie has a lot of potential, and I'll break down why:

1. The original movie is well received. The consensus is that it's an old formula (Straight edge and idiot partners), that shouldn't work, but does because the story is so good.

2. Chris Pratt is incredibly charismatic and charming. That's no secret. He makes any movie he is in better by virtue of that likeability.

3. Wu Jing is a fucking badass. We actually reviewed his movie 'Wolf Warrior 2', the highest grossing Chinese movie ever made, with Donnie a while back. He's an extremely solid action star and the perfect straight edge to Pratt's loveable doofus.

4. The Russo Brothers are producing. They're the (second) highest grossing film makers in the galaxy for a reason. They know how to blend action and comedy in a way like almost nobody else can. They're obviously not directing, but hopefully they're influence can be felt in that regard.

5. Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck are adapting the script. These two were writers on VEEP, a show that required likeability and great comedy dialogue maybe as much as any other show.

This could end up being total garbage, but I want more movies like this back in my life.
