Are The Heat Crazy For Not Including Tyler Herro In A Package For Jrue Holiday?

Ok let me just catch up here. When it comes to bringing in a two time MVP, the Miami Heat would be brave enough to part with Tyler Herro. But when it comes to bringing in a former All Star point guard and a player who gives you All NBA caliber defense and puts up 20 points a night, well then Tyler Herro becomes untouchable.

*sidenote: I fucking loved Smart Guy growing up. All time Disney show for me from back in the day. The second I saw that GIF I knew I had to go with it.

Let me just ask you something. The Miami Heat were 12th in defense this season. Of the 16 teams that made the playoffs, they were 8th. Now imagine what that defense looks like with a core of Holiday/Butler/Bam (factoring in they are able to keep those two). That's a pretty good nucleus. Not to mention, with Goran Dragic a free agent, who knows if he's even back with the Heat next year. If they have an opportunity to add somone like Jrue Holiday, you're going to let Tyler Herro stand in the way? So basically unless Pat Riley can get an MVP caliber player, he wouldn't move Herro? That seems a little silly. Especially when the Heat are in win-now mode.

Just like I said the other day, I really like Herro as a player. I think he's going to be really good as a develops, especially if he figures out his defense. But I wouldn't say he's better than Jrue Holiday right now, or even within the next 3 years. Granted the Heat would obviously need to know that Holiday would sign an extension, but if that's on the table then what's the problem. Without including someone like Herro, why would the Pelicans even entertain this idea? You have to give up something to get something in most cases, and the Heat are certainly making it known that they are trying to compete for titles now.

What I fear is happening is that the internet is ruining Tyler Herro. He was so goddamn fun to watch this postseason, but it feels like he's quickly becoming wildly overrated. That's annoying. Why can't people just enjoy an exciting rookie who had a legit postseason run? Now all of a sudden he becomes untouchable unless it's for the best players in the league? Seems like a bit much.

As someone who has to deal with the Heat for the foreseeable future, I'd much rather they have Herro than Holiday (yes, I know what happened in the ECF). At least until he shows he can hold his own defensively, that's still an area of the Heat that opposing teams can attack. You swap that out for Holiday, the Heat become that much tougher to score on.

So if it were you, would you flip Herro + more for Holiday?
