Showtime Shocked The World By Announcing Dexter Is Coming Back

Talk about an all-time announcement from the fucking clouds. Dexter is #back...which is a good thing...I guess? Honestly I never watched Dexter but it was always on the list of TV shows people would recommend to me back when I actually had time to watch TV shows. So I guess there is no better time than now to catch up since on a show that's coming back as a limited series next year.

THR- After a sojourn in the Pacific Northwest, Dexter is headed back to Showtime. The premium cable outlet has ordered a 10-episode Dexter limited series that will reunite star Michael C. Hall and original showrunner Clyde Phillips. The show will be a continuation of the original, eight-season series, which ended in 2013 with Hall's Dexter Morgan going on self-imposed exile as a lumberjack and living a solitary life. Production is scheduled to begin early next year for planned fall 2021 premiere.

Again, I don't know if the limited series is to just feel out if this could be a long-term show again or just a way to put a bow on everything after a rough last few seasons. One of the things I know however from all my friends who watched Dexter is that Seasons 1-4 were the best seasons of the show, with Season 4 starring Jon Lithgow also being one of the best seasons of television ever before the show fell off afterwards. Which is why it's awesome news that Clyde Phillips is coming back to run things after his departure coincided with Dexter's fall in review scores.

Phillips served as showrunner for the first four seasons of Dexter, leaving in 2009. During his tenure the show earned three Emmy nominations for best drama series and four Writers Guild Award nominations in the same category. He signed an overall deal with Showtime and CBS Television Studios earlier this year, leading to further speculation about a potential Dexter revival.

So if you are looking for something to watch as Mother Nature cools off the outdoors while corona closes pretty much everything fun, I guess catching up on Dexter should be somewhere on your list because it will be on mine. Whether or not my kids allow me to watch a show about a serial killer as we are potentially locked in the house again will decide how far I make it on that list. Can't wait until coronawinter comes all over my face!
