Watch Tom Hanks As A Civil War Veteran/Cowboy In The First Teaser For 'News of the World'

A widowed Civil War veteran agrees to deliver a girl, taken by the Kiowa people years ago, to her aunt and uncle, against her will. They travel hundreds of miles and face grave dangers as they search for a place that either can call home.

Personally, like most humans on this earth, I'm a big Tom Hanks guy. He could put out anything, no matter how shitty (Cloud Atlas, The Post), and I'll be the first in line to watch in theaters. As a big fan of western dramas as well, this should be basically right up my alley. However, I simply cannot, in good conscious, say that this TV spot was good. It's got the age old trope of a white kid raised by Native Americans, lackluster looking set pieces and effects (especially that sandstorm), and cookie cutter dialogue. That said, it's just the first TV spot so more good may be yet to come.

This is based on a 2016 novel of the same name. It's scheduled for release in theaters, yes you heard that right, Christmas day.
