Miley Says Her New Album Is Inspired By Metallica And Britney Spears

CoS- Miley Cyrus wants her new album to be “reflective” of the music she loves, which ranges from “Britney Spears to Metallica.”

The pop singer spoke about the forthcoming LP in an interview with French radio station NRJ. She suggested that her new song “Midnight Sky” is one interpretation of those musical ideas, saying, “I think the first single comes with a lot of pressure because it does kind of show everyone where you’re going.”

The combination of pop and metal ruled radio in the glam-rock heyday of the 1980s, and glam is certainly a reference for “Midnight Sky”. But it wouldn’t be a surprise if some other songs are wildly different. As Cyrus emphasized, she has wide musical taste. She said,

“But again, in my sets, I cover Britney Spears to Metallica, so my record will be reflective of who I am, which is just kind of all different pieces of inspiration and influence.”

I'm a big Miley guy. I never bought into the whole "Dead Petz" off the rails persona thing because I knew that as a billionaire dollar business, which she is, the people surrounding her had a close eye on her, and that it was most likely a marketing gimmick.

As a person that's been thrust into the public spotlight since she was a little kid, and never really had anything close to a normal life, she's held it together better than I could say I would.

But regardless of what you think about her personality, sexuality, or public image, you have to be deaf to not think she has a voice that's out of this world.

That's why this is such fucking awesome news.

She's not posing here claiming to be a Metallica fan. She's covered them in her shows for years.

Which is high comedy considering she still has a heavy fanbase of young girls who have zero clue who Metallica is.

(She's also covered Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, and Chris Cornell)

But when you mention that your main influences for your forthcoming album will be Metallica AND Britney Spears that undoubtedly will cause most people to scratch their heads. What the hell do those two have to do with each other?

But I'm here to tell you not to fear. In one of the most surprising sonic mashups ever, Britney x Metallica actually cranks. See/hear below -

p.s.- I might not have the relationship that Alex does with Miley
