Indonesian Authorities Ordered 8 People Who Broke The Mask Law To Dig Graves For Covid Victims

Local authorities in Indonesia ordered eight people who broke the country’s face mask laws to dig graves for COVID-19 victims, according to a report.

The province of East Java punished the mask violators with the manual labor at a local cemetery in hopes of deterring others from disregarding the nationwide face-covering mandate, the Jakarta Post reported.

Well, I guess that's one way to go about it. Look, I'm not here to debate whether or not you need to wear a mask during this pandemic. I'm pretty sure everyone with common sense in the world is wearing one right now though because if it works......great. Worth a shot. And you look like a complete asshole walking around the grocery store without one on when everyone else is taking one for the team. Anyways, what I am here to talk about is the uhhh, interesting, techniques that the Indonesian government is using to enforce their mask laws. Straight out of the Allies playbook after World War 2. Make the civilians bury the dead. Or is this a tip of the cap to the old small town move of putting a crashed car in front of the school before Homecoming weekend? Scare everyone into acting right. Nope, it's neither. It's just a response to the gravedigger shortage in Indonesia!

“There are only three available gravediggers at the moment, so I thought I might as well put these people to work with them,” politician Suyono told local media, according to the paper.

We've got a classic case of supply and command here, folks. You've got too many people dying for the supply of gravediggers on payroll, so what else are you going to do? Personally, I would've considered giving the salaried gravediggers time and a half for overtime, but I see the pros of this decision as well. I mean, what is a $50 fine going to do to help the country? Put these criminals to use! I'd like to see this sort of initiative taken in America for a couple things, as well. Restorative Justice at it's finest. I mean, why not tack a couple grave plot holes onto drivers that just picked up DUIs? And honestly, it doesn't even need to be about things that kill people. Any sort of petty crime could be corrected with a little old fashioned hard work. Like Mr. Sir once told Stanley Yelnats, digging holes builds character.
