The First Official Trailer For The Comedy Store Documentary Just Dropped And Shocker...It Looks Awesome

Source -  In April, Showtime announced it had ordered a four-part documentary series from former stand-up comedian Mike Binder (who directed Bill Burr’s 2019 Netflix special, Paper Tiger) about the iconic, long-running Los Angeles comedy club the Comedy Store, and today the network dropped the trailer for the show.

The Comedy Store’s owner and founder, Mitzi Shore, passed away in 2018 at age 87, and Binder’s docuseries will spotlight Shore’s wildly influential club, “which over the past 47 years has launched the careers of a breathtaking array of stars.”

The Comedy Store debuts on Showtime on Sunday, October 4.

The Video:

David Letterman, Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Dice Clay, Howie Mandel, Chris Rock, Whitney Cummings, Jay Leno, and Bill Burr? And that's just in the first minute in half? Then you've got Sam Kinison, Richard Pryor, Johnny Carson and a bunch of others in the second half? Sign me up. As a comedy junkie I almost came my pants watching that trailer. A lot of our younger readers may not know, but before TikTok you had to get famous with actual talent. It was wild. You'd have to go on stage and actually make people laugh using real life jokes. And the only place to do that was The Comedy Store. If you were good enough there you got sent to Carson and if you killed there your career was made. That's how it happened for every person listed above and so many more who weren't.

The owner of the club, Mitzi Shore, passed away a few years ago but she was essentially the gatekeeper to the entertainment business back in the day. It's tough to describe the impact she had on the comedy business, but it was massive.  It'll be interesting to see how they pay tribute to her in the documentary. October 4th can't come soon enough.
