Wake Up With Austin Powers Singing ‘BBC’

In one of those weird Twitter occurrences that defy explanation, Austin Powers was trending this week. The movies are making the rounds on basic cable, so maybe that’s got something to do with it. Anyway, it led me to rediscover this little number, which is surprisingly an absolute banger.

Some friends and I were talking last week about Myers and why he’s only doing small cameos like the one in “Inglorious Basterds” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” And my best theory is that he made enough off of this trilogy and “Wayne’s World” and the Shrek franchise that he’s all set. He’s happy to kick back at his mansion in Canada and leave the grind and pressure of constantly having to outdo himself in his rear view. And damn if work like this doesn’t still hold up beautifully after 20 or so years.
