Scientist Apparently Discovers When The Universe Will "End"

From The New York Post:

It’s not expected to happen anytime soon, but one scientist has calculated when the universe will end.

The research, published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, notes that sometime over the “next few trillion years,” when the universe is dead as we know it, stars will continue to explode, not with a giant bang, but “very, very slowly fizzle.”

“It [the universe] will be a bit of a sad, lonely, cold place,” the study’s lead author, theoretical physicist Matt Caplan, said in a statement. “It’s known as ‘heat death,’ where the universe will be mostly black holes and burned-out stars.”

Cue the "CAN IT HAPPEN LIKE TOMORROW" tweets because 2020 has been such a shit show. But of course that's quickly put to rest of course in the first line of the article.

It's odd how it feels like one of these "discoveries" are posted about once a month, I know that when I click on the article it will tell me that it's trillions of years away, but still the Armageddon doomsday fan / paranoid hypochondriac in me can't help but click on it juuuuust to be sure it actually DOESN"T say "yeah everything is going to be blown to shit in three days".

But what's even wilder than that is I think that if that were the case - I wouldn't fully believe it until I was staring at the asteroid / sun exploding or however this would come to it's end directly in the face.

So, at the end of the day whenever something small is getting you down, just remind yourself that inevitably our entire universe and existence will just be a "sad, lonely, cold place", and I guarantee those problems will feel significantly smaller.

Easier said than done until your squad blows a late inning lead or your kicker misses the game tying field goal as time expires.
