World's Last Blockbuster Turned Into an Airbnb

If you thought you had missed your chance to ever live out a childhood dream of spending a movie night sleepover inside a Blockbuster Video store, don't be so fast to give up. The last operational Blockbuster in the world, located in Bend, Oregon, is partnering with Airbnb to give a few lucky people the chance to spend a night in the store.

Fox News — Beginning on Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. PST, residents of Deschutes County can try to book a “totally rad, yet intimate slumber party at the world's last BLOCKBUSTER store,” which has been temporarily outfitted with a “living room” area featuring a big-screen TV and a pull-out couch. Guests who successfully book one of the three available nights (Sept. 18, 19 or 20) will also be treated to “all the movies [their] heart could desire,” according to a press release.

The kicker? The manager of the store is only charging $4 per night to whoever is lucky enough to book one of the three available nights as a way to thank the Bend community for keeping the store in business.

I was born in 1997, so I'm just barely old enough to remember when Blockbuster was still cool. There was no more thrilling Friday night in the early 2000s than getting a movie and some Buncha Crunch from Blockbuster and heading back to the house — and maybe if you were really lucky, you could talk your mom into an XBOX rental while you ere there.

If you're anywhere within five hours of Bend, Oregon, you absolutely have to try to win one of these stays. This is the dinner party story of a lifetime.

Also, I'm 99 percent sure this tweet from Blockbuster — its first since 2014 — is in relation to this story, but what a turnaround it could be for 2020 if we got a Blockbuster comeback.
