American League Cy Young Race Update: It's Over

Shane Bieber last night: 8 IP, 13 K, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 H

Shane Bieber on the season: 2-0, 14 IP, 27 K, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 H

If he keeps pitching like this, Justin is going to be known as "The Other Bieber". Shane's 27 strikeouts have matched the MLB record for most Ks EVER through two starts of a season, tying the big spoon, Karl Spooner, of the Brooklyn Dodgers from the great summer of 1954. Folks, Bieber has locked up the Cy Young race and you can throw away the key. This one is over. The only question there is now is if he's going to be the AL MVP or not. A pitcher hasn't won MVP since Kershaw did in 2014, and an American League pitcher hasn't since Verlander did in 2011. But that dude lost 5 games that year and had an ERA of 2.40. That's astronomical compared to the 0.00 that Bieber has posted thus far. For our math wizards out there, you could multiply Biebers losses and ERA times a billion and it still wouldn't even come close to Verlanders. This is a no brainer to me.

Last night he was absolutely lights out. But this time it was against the big bad Minnesota Twins and their high powered offense. They came into the game with the 2nd best run differential in the league. And he goose egged them. They literally never even came close. Maybe that will shut these people up that came out after our starters looked so good against the Royals and White Sox?

Buddy, who else do you want Bieber to shut down? The National League All-Star team? Oh wait, he's done that too.

The fact of the matter is that Shane Bieber went from 5th starter, to All-Star game MVP, to Opening Day starter, to best pitcher in baseball all in the last year. I don't want to overreact because it's only 7 games into the season, but how you want to play Cleveland in the playoffs right now? You're automatically start down 0-1 in the series.
