The Chainsmokers Are Getting Dragged For Hosting A 'Drive In Charity Concert' For COVID In The Hamptons

Source - The New York State Department of Health is investigating a concert headlined by the Chainsmokers in the Hamptons over the weekend, which appeared to violate social distancing and other COVID-19 guidelines.

The Safe and Sound charity event was touted as a drive-in concert where guests would be allowed to sit outside their cars in designated areas that were at least six feet apart. The Chainsmokers headlined the show, which also featured performances from DJ D-Sol — the stage name of Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon — singer-songwriter Matt White, and Southampton town supervisor Jay Schneiderman and his band.

Per the New York Times, organizers — In the Know Experiences and Invisible Noise — said they’d followed “all proper and current protocols” related to stemming the spread of COVID-19, including temperature checks. Some of the reported 2,000 attendees also spoke with Buzzfeed News and said they felt safe during the concert, that there were dividers separating sections and that people were social distancing properly.

Still, a handful of videos from the July 25th concert soon went viral on social media, in part because they seemed to show packed crowds with few people wearing masks. 

First of all, can you imagine the types of people at a Chainsmokers concert in the Hamptons? Holy moly I'd rather rent a summer house in Iraq. Just thousands of kids driving their parents Range Rovers pretending to be more successful than they are. I genuinely cannot think of a more douchey collection of human beings anywhere on earth. Tennis bracelets, white pants, Veuve Clicquot and Daddy's hand-me-down Rolex- no thanks.

You get the idea. 2000 tickets were sold with packages starting at $850 going all the way up to $25,000. The website alleges that all proceeds will go towards local and national charities including No Kid Hungry, Children’s Medical Fund of NY and Southampton Fresh Air Home so at least there's that. Still, not a place I'd want to be even if there was no coronavirus. If you want more photos and videos of the concert all you have to do is search "Chainsmokers" on twitter and they'll pop up. 

It'll be interesting to see how things play out moving forward in terms of events. I feel like there's no perfect way, but we have to try something. Who knows? All I know is that the GOAT would never. RIP Avicii.
