Dustin Johnson Withdraws From The 3M Open With A Back Injury After An Opening Round Of 78

Annnnnnnnnd a less-than-stellar field at the 3M Open in Minnesota just got a little worse. Dustin Johnson, the 4th ranked player in the world and highest ranked player in the field, just withdrew with a back injury after an opening round of 78. That stinks but something's been wrong with DJ since he won the Travelers a month ago. His recent rounds have been very very bad and therefore very unlike Dustin Johnson. He went 80-80 and missed the cut at the Memorial last week and then today shot a 7-over 78 to put him at 23 over (!!!!!!!!!) for his last three rounds which is very #bad by PGA Tour standards and #horrendous by 4th-ranked-player-in-the-world standards.

DJ made a 9 on the par-5 18th and this is how it happened

Just a bunch of balls in the water.

DJ's explanation was funny

“It just went in the water and I hit two more shots in the water, then I hit a good one. Made a tap-in for a 9.”

A man of many words as usual. Here's to hoping DJ is feeling well enough to play in Memphis next week and then in the PGA Championship the week after.
