I Regret To Inform You That Taco Bell Officially Announced They Are Indeed Getting Rid Of A Bunch Of Menu Items Including Nachos Supreme, Loaded Grillers, And Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes But The Quesarito Is (Kinda) Saved

So yesterday, I blogged this story hoping it was yet another internet hoax that the good people at Snopes would throw into a bodybag. When has an anonymous comment on Reddit ever steered us wrong?

However today, we got word straight from the talking chihuahua's mouth that Taco Bell is indeed wiping a bunch of favorites off the menu (if you imagine the Taco Bell chihuahua is saying all this stuff, it makes a little bit of the pain go away):

Taco Bell- We’re clearing space on our menu to create a more efficient Taco Bell experience Beginning August 13, we will be simplifying our menu to streamline operations. This evolved menu approach comes after months of analyzing the new way we are running our restaurants. With safety top of mind, we want to ensure an easy and fast ordering experience for our guests and team members.

While some old favorites may be retiring, the continued creativity coming from our Food Innovation Team is non-stop. Since the start of COVID, we’ve made changes at the restaurant level with the safety of our Team Members and guests as our top priority, but we didn’t just stop there. Our new normal has also transformed the way we look at innovation and product testing at our global headquarters. What was once an “all hands on deck” approach in our famous test kitchen has switched to virtual brainstorms and kitchen simulations. Our teams have shifted from in-person focus groups to contactless drive-thru tastings. We’ve learned to adapt to ensure Taco Bell’s long history of innovation never stops.

I don't know if we blame COVID, bu$ine$$ deci$ion$, or 2020 as a whole. But the grocery grim reaper is officially coming for some of our favorites in less than a month.

WHAT WE’RE SAYING GOODBYE TO:

Tacos

  • Grilled Steak Soft Taco

Burritos

  • 7-Layer Burrito

Specialties

  • Quesarito (still available via web/app for order ahead)

  • Nachos Supreme

Cravings Value

  • Beefy Fritos Burrito®

  • Spicy Tostada

  • Triple Layer Nachos

  • Spicy Potato Soft Taco

Snacks

  • Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes

  • Loaded Grillers (Cheesy Potato, Beefy Nacho)

  • Chips & Dips

Breakfast

  • Mini Skillet Bowl

As I wrote yesterday, losing Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes, the Beefy Fritos Burrito, and the Loaded Grillers is what hit my personal palate the hardest since those were some of my go-to items when I tried to build a meal instead of buying a value meal with any of the typical heavy hitter entrees (I'm personally a Chalupa guy because it tastes the best and is the most fun to say).

The Quesarito surviving Cut Day was nice to see as both a fan of delicious food as well as science for the work it must've taken to splice the DNA or the quesadilla and burrito. However, it staying alive only as an order ahead item just turned every stoner and boozebag into the Alonzo Mourning gif because if you are going to Taco Bell in the middle of the night, you almost definitely don't have your wits about you enough to remember to order ahead of time.

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to head out to Taco Bell, load up on some of my old favorites before they disappear forever and then set an iPhone reminder to go back on August 12th to buy 100 Nachos Supreme, Loaded Grillers, and Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes that will sell on the black market for 10x their menu price.
