Bryson DeChambeau Addresses #CameramanGate On Post-Win Twitch Stream, Touches Face A Whole Bunch

First things first, lotta face and head touching from Bryson in that video. Not the main takeaway from the video obviously but it would've been weird if I didn't at least mention how much touching there was in such a short clip.

Secondly, if all this stuff with the cameraman isn't a big deal then why does he keep talking about it? Yeah the media (myself included) have been talking about it a lot since it happened but no one has been talking about it more than Bryson DeChambeau. He made it a big deal with his comments after his round on Saturday. If he had just gotten in front of those mics and said, "Yeah I was a little frustrated out there and I had a conversation with the cameraman but it wasn't a big deal at all" I guarantee it would've gone away and not been a story whatsoever.

Instead he said this

“He was literally watching me the whole entire way up after getting out of the bunker, walking up next to the green. And I just was like, ‘Sir, what is the need to watch me that long?’” DeChambeau said. “I mean, I understand it’s his job to video me, but at the same point, I think we need to start protecting our players out here compared to showing a potential vulnerability and hurting someone’s image. I just don’t think that’s necessarily the right thing to do.”

“As much as we’re out here performing, I think it’s necessary that we have our times of privacy as well when things aren’t going our way. I mean, we’re in the spotlight, but if somebody else is in the spotlight they wouldn’t want that either,” DeChambeau said. “I feel like when you’re videoing someone and you catch Tiger (Woods) at a bad time, you show him accidentally doing something, or someone else, they’re just frustrated because they really care about the game. It could really hurt them if they catch you at a potentially vulnerable time.

“We don’t mean anything by it, we just care a lot about the game. For that to damage our brand like that, that’s not cool in the way we act because if you actually meet me in person, I’m not too bad of a dude, I don’t think.”

THAT'S what turned it into a big deal. That's a whole lot of words for nothing. Him referencing Tiger Woods and his #brand and how his privacy needs to be protected despite him playing in a televised golf tournament is what turned it into a big deal, not the media. Oh and the part of the video about him protecting the Tour and other guys on Tour? Huh? Did they ask him to do that? I'm gonna guess they didn't. All those guys are big boys who can take care of themselves. In fact I don't see any other Tour player complaining about being on camera too much so save me the, "I did this for everybody" bullshit.
