Would You Pay Full Price To See These Movies Re-Released In Theaters?
UPDATE: Regal is bringing back a bunch of movies now as well...
(From this list, I'd see the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, 'Jaws', and 'Inception' in IMAX without question)
Re-releasing older movies to kick off the return of movie theaters is a really solid idea. Other countries are doing it, and it makes sense, especially with the amount of comic book movie fans, to re-release some massive movies.
The big question is, though, will you pay full price ($15 in some cities) to see these movies?
For me, it isn't a yes across the board. As a whole, I think going the route of releasing older movies is the thing that intrigues me the most. How many people have never seen 'Star Wars' or 'Indiana Jones' on the big screen? Hell, even 'Inception' got a re-release overseas, I'd love to see that movie in IMAX again.
MOVIES I'D PAY TO SEE AGAIN IN ANY FORMAT:
- 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back'
Never take for granted seeing A) one of the greatest movies ever made or B) one of the original Star Wars movies in theaters. I'd pay top dollar to see this on the big screen, especially an IMAX screen. I was fortunate enough to see it in theaters when it was re-released in 1997, and I'd love to see it again.
MOVIES I'D ONLY PAY TO SEE AGAIN IN IMAX:
- 'The Avengers'
- 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
- 'Iron Man'
I never saw any of these three movies in IMAX, despite being a huge fucking nerd and seeing 'The Force Awakens' five times in theaters. Nothing beats a real IMAX screen, so sign me up to see these again in the big format. I'd also pay to see those other Marvel movies, as well.
Did you know that most IMAX screens in the country aren't the real deal?
Seriously, check that link out and don't get ripped off.
MOVIES I WOULDN'T PAY TO SEE AGAIN:
- 'Black Panther'
- 'Deadpool'
- 'Zootopia'
- 'The Greatest Showman'
- 'Inside Out'
With the exception of one movie on this list… these are some great movies, but I see no point in paying top dollar to run it back in a theater. I may as well just go grab popcorn and watch something from home at that point.

I do wish Disney would release 'Indiana Jones' in theaters, but I commend them trying to inject some life into the industry.
But let's be real, we are all looking forward to one release…
SOON ENOUGH.
