Apple Wants To Replace Car Keys With An iPhone That Can Unlock And Start Your Car

Apple wants the iPhone to replace your car keys. On Monday, the tech company announced at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, a new feature that uses the smartphone to unlock and start a car.

Well, I guess we're not in the flying car stage yet like some people thought we'd be, but allowing your smartphone to serve as your car keys would be quite the impressive futuristic technology. But I'll be honest, I'm a little weary of how much Apple already controls my life, and abolishing car keys because you can simply use your iPhone is a dangerous path to go down. I mean, I already despise people that text me back in the green because they don't have iMessage. I don't include people in group chats for that simple reason alone. I've got an iPhone, an iPad, a Macbook, and an Apple Watch.....all synchronized with calendars stored and passwords saved. It's just too easy.....I'm on this brand for life. But at what point are they going to screw me over? Because they could right now. At what point is the next iPhone going to be $2000? $3,000? They've got me hooked and it's dangerous, dangerous, dangerous.

Anyways, aside from the fact that Apple is going to dominate my way of life even more, what could possibly go wrong with this new invention? Uhhh, imagine getting your phone stolen and then your car stolen in the same day. Or what happens if your phone dies? Look, I'm not a fan of car keys either. They're big and bulky. They rattle around. And they're a pain in the behind to carry with you everywhere you go. But I'm not sure I see anything wrong with the little fob to start the car, or even the pop out key that has become popular. Besides, if you still have to carry your house key and your work key or whatever else you have on the key chain, what's one more key? The way I see it, either put ALL of your keys onto your smartphone, or put none of them.

Oh, and here's a little other tidbit from the announcement:

Owners will also be able to share the virtual car key with friends through iMessage.

Add this to the list of things I simply cannot comprehend. Autonomous driving, cryptocurrency, bluetooth. The list goes on and on and on of people that are WAY smarter than me. Give me all of the time in the world and I know for certain I would never be able to invent anything, let alone 5g and space travel and all of these crazy things people are doing in the world today. But seriously, please tell me how in the hell are you going to be able to send someone a text message with the power to unlock and start your car from it? Like a key emoji. You send someone the key emoji, and all of a sudden they have the keys to your car. I clearly don't get how, but does anyone else not see how hackable this feature could be? People aren't going to be hacking celebrities' clouds for their nudes any more…..they're going to be hacking their clouds for the keys to their Lamborghinis and Ferraris. Anonymous better stay away from my 2013 Honda Civic!
