Cameron Champ Becomes Second PGA Tour Player To Test Positive For Coronavirus, Withdraws From The Travelers Championship
PGA Tour- PGA TOUR statement on Cameron Champ WD: PGA TOUR member Cameron Champ has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship after testing positive for COVID-19 during pre-tournament screening on Tuesday. Champ will have the PGA TOUR’s full support throughout his self-isolation period under CDC guidelines. “I feel great physically and I was obviously surprised and disappointed to learn of the test result,” said Champ. “It’s important now to take the necessary steps and measures to protect others, including my loved ones.” The TOUR is expected to release full testing results at the completion of the pre-tournament testing process on Wednesday.
And there's another one. Nick Watney tested positive at the RBC Heritage and withdrew and now Cameron Champ has tested positive and has withdrawn from this week's Traveler's Championship. That makes two positive tests on the PGA Tour. It should be noted that Champ did not play in the RBC Heritage last week so there's no connection whatsoever between Watney and Champ. According to the Tour's COVID-19 protocol, Cameron Champ will now have to self quarantine for two weeks and test negative before he's allowed to enter another PGA Tour event. Best of luck to Cameron Champ as he goes through quarantine and recovers.
Most importantly though, I'd like to know what Serigo Garcia thinks about Cameron Champ testing positive for coronavirus. Does he think that Champ deserved to catch COVID-19 or not? Sergio didn't think Nick Watney deserved it but we have yet to see Sergio's thoughts on Cameron Champ. Sergio really made a lot more work for himself with those comments last week because now, if he doesn't say anything about Cameron Champ not deserving to get it, we will all just assume that Sergio thinks he deserved it. I really hope someone asks Sergio about it this week.
