There Is A Growing Petition To Rename The Capital Of Ohio To "Flavortown"

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — As debate continues about Christopher Columbus statues and related symbols in Columbus, a change.org petition is calling for the city to be renamed 'Flavortown.'

The creator of the petition said the name "Flavortown" pays homage to the city's culinary history as well as Columbus native Guy Fieri.

Look I'm not here to discuss whether the state needs to rename their capital city that was founded in 1812, but I am here to unequivocally oppose the idea that we should give a nod to Columbus native Guy Fieri if we do. Like what are you talking about? I've been in Ohio for all 27 years of my life except for the 4 days I was in New York City for idol week, and I had no idea that Guy Fieri was even from here. I've been living in Columbus since 2015, and again, no clue. Flavortown is single handidly the dumbest name I've ever heard. Could you imagine? Rece Davis welcoming you to College Gameday live from Flavortown, Ohio. Folks, our food isn't even any good here!!!

The people are disagreeing with me though.

6,000 now……but getting signed by multiple people every minute. Probably 7,000 by the time I finish this blog. It's getting on ABC and NBC and all the news stations are covering it. I'd like to think this is a joke, but anything is possible in 2020. Flavortown? Because of Guy Fieri? There are soooo many other people that have impacted this city in a positive way than Guy Fieri. How about Fort Urban Meyers? The man is 7-0 against Michigan. Or how about Chaseyoungstown? That's a good one. Even something about Aaron Craft would pass unanimously. But Flavortown is terrible. Again, I'm not here to argue about changing the name or not. I'm here to plead to you all, can we please not make it Flavortown?

If we do though…..do we get a Guy Fieri statue in front of the state house??
