Colin Montgomerie Thinks The PGA Needs A 'Tour Ball' Because Bryson Dechambeau Got Too Jacked And Drives The Ball Too Far

[Source] - “I’m an advocate of what Jack Nicklaus proposes – a tournament ball for professionals, that goes only 80 to 85 per cent as far,” Montgomerie, a top European golfer in the 1990s and 2000s, told the outlet. “The time has come, because we can’t be building courses at 10,000 yards.

“It’s great to see athleticism in the game, but to see him carrying 330 yards in the air and with the bounce you are up to 350, 360? This is getting unreal, something we haven’t seen before, a whole new game we are beginning to witness.

Before Xander Schauffele's missed putt:

The story of the Colonial was Bryson being jacked and hitting bombs. Because of that we had Colin Montgomerie suggest we see a tour ball used and it would eliminate distance and cap it at 80-85% of what they are hitting now. I hate it. I hate it so much. Not everyone is hitting like Bryson and Dustin Johnson off the tee. Not to mention Bryson didn't even win!

Here's why I hate it, we don't change shit in any sport because someone is great at one aspect of it. When Yao Ming came to the NBA, we didn't make the rim higher. We didn't change baseball because Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire were hitting homer ... actually, scratch that one. But the point is golf is a complete game. Sure you can be long off the tee, but what happens if every wedge approach shot is off and you're giving yourself 28 foot birdie putts instead of 15?

I get that you can't keep extending the courses and making them longer. We've done that. But I just don't care about dudes hitting it 350 off the tee. I love it. It's so much fun to watch, especially true when it's a group where you have someone like DJ or Bryson going long and then an average hitter. I want to see how dudes play a hole differently.

I still have no idea how Xander's putt didn't go in by the way. Granted we've all been there, numerous times a round in fact. But I suck at golf. I'm not Xander. That goes in 100 out of 100 times for a dude like that. And then to have Colin Morikawa's putt do this:

God it felt good to being back to a multi-screen sports day yesterday.
