"The Idea Of Starting The Season July 4th, That Is Pretty Much Gone" - Ken Rosenthal On Baseball Fucking Up Their Golden Opportunity

America has been deprived of sports for months and there has never been a bigger opportunity for baseball to own the spotlight than right now. Some would suggest this is the luckiest moment ever for the sport. Just look at anytime we get a little taste of sports. What happens? The ratings explode! Tiger/Phil, NASCAR, The Last Dance, UFC, etc. Baseball had a chance to start their season on July 4th weekend. It would have been fucking incredible. Our national pastime kicking off and be the first of the four major sports back on our country's birthday. Orgasmic.

Nope. Why would they do that? It'd be way too smart. Have all of the eyes on a sport that ever so desperately tries to change itself to get more viewers? Yeah fuck that, let's just fight about money and sit there with our dicks in our hands. Awesome stuff all around. What a great PR move in terms of attracting new fans and keeping the ones you have. YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!

Now they're looking at competing with the NBA and NHL playoffs right when they come back which certainly will be a battle they'll lose. It's legit nonsense what's been going on in these negotiations. It's a fucking embarrassment. Major League Baseball, in classic baseball fashion, blew its biggest opportunity maybe ever. This continues to be the most frustrating sports story I've ever followed and it just won't end.

It's wild to see how a competent commissioner like Adam Silver handles this pandemic. NBA Twitter looks so happy these days with all the promise in the world. The guy who runs their league actually likes the sport and wants it to flourish. Can't relate.

I just want Jeff Passan to tweet the baseball version of this and I'm starting to think it will never happen.

Fuck you Manfred.
