Bill Burr Shares His Stance on Continuing to Root for Brady, Gronk, and the Bucs as a Patriots Fan

In addition to an important conversation with Arian Foster on today's Pardon My Take, Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter also welcomed on recurring guest Bill Burr. The actor/comedian hopped on the show to discuss his new movie, King of Staten Island, what life without sports has been like, and much more. Similar to a handful of people in the Barstool office, Burr is a big fan of the New England Patriots. So, now that Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are off to Tampa Bay, where do Burr's rooting interests currently stand? He gives his take:

Mr. Cat: We know where our producer Hank stands, but are you going to be a Tampa Bay Bucs fan this year?

Bill Burr: Oh, absolutely!

Mr. Cat: OK, so Hank agrees with you.

Bill Burr: Everything short of buying a jersey, just because I'm too old to buy a jersey. Abso-fucking-lutely I am. Obviously, I root for the Patriots first. But here's my thing: I want to see Tom Brady take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Super Bowl and play Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. They're trying to go back-to-back, and Tom Brady is trying to do what Joe Montana didn't quite do: he made the Chiefs a playoff team, his second team, but he didn't win the whole thing. And then he wins seven, he's got one more than [Michael] Jordan. I don't know, I think that would be unbelievable.

Bill Burr: Listen, I'm not going to lie to you. It hurts like hell that he's gone, you know. But that happens in sports. He put us on the fucking map, we were a joke. We played in a high school fucking football stadium, we were a joke. So, I would never be upset and I would never root against that guy. Unless the Patriots were playing the Buccaneers, I'm a Patriots fan first. Good for him. He delayed money so many times making sure we had a good team, and he took us to nine Super Bowls, winning six. I'm going to fucking cry about that? Can't do it.

Everyone, of course, has the right to have their own opinion. However, I don't see how you can blame anyone for having a take like the one Bill Burr and Hank agree on. Tom Brady is the first thing I think of when the New England Patriots come to mind, and I'm sure that's the case for the majority of sports fans everywhere. Yes, he may not be on the team anymore, but the numbers speak for themselves when it comes to showing what he brought to their city. Root for him as much as you want, as long as it doesn't conflict with the Patriots.
