The People's Elbow - THE MOST ELECTRIFYING MOVE IN ALL OF SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT - Was Created As A Joke To Make Undertaker Laugh During A Match

[Source] - But, during a 6-Man Tag Team match back in the day, Triple H says ... Dwayne Johnson tried out something new and goofy in the hopes to make The Dead Man smile.

"I believe the first time Rock did The People's Elbow was in a match where we were tryna make 'Taker crack," Triple H says.

"It absolutely started [as a joke] and then it was getting huge reaction and everybody went with it."

Hold up, this feels like groundbreaking news. I have no idea if this is out there already, but it's the first time I've ever heard about it. The People's Elbow - THE MOST ELECTRIFYING MOVE IN ALL OF SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT - only became a thing to make Undertaker laugh?

My mind is officially in a pretzel.

On one hand it's just that. It's the most electrifying move in all of sports entertainment. It's a move that everyone has attempted on a pillow, young brother or friend at some point. Don't pretend like you're above practicing wrestling moves when you were a kid. We all did it. It's one of the coolest moves with the dramatic taking off of an arm band. The arms crossing. The leg shimmy, the jumping over the opponent. Everything. It's awesome.

On the other hand it feels wrong that this was created as a funny gimmick. The Rock is cool. Sure he's funny and made pie jokes and sex jokes, but his moves weren't funny. His gimmick was kicking your ass and being better than you. That's what I think of when I see the People's Elbow and really just the Rock in general. Hearing that it was all created for a gimmick, I just don't know how to view it. Like I said, this is the first time I've heard of this, as I'm more of a casual wrestling fan now vs a die hard growing up.

I need to know if it worked. Did Undertaker just start giggling the first time Rock jumped over him? I'd like to think not. I assume Undertaker didn't break character - until he changed his character to American Badass. Part of me appreciates these big name stars trying to get him to break character but now I just feel like part of the People's Elbow has been ruined for me.
