Dennis Rodman Says That His Former Teammates Weren't Mentally Tough Enough To Deal With Criticism In The Last Dance

(NYP)--The players were a little upset because they felt Michael was throwing them under the bus. ‘You guys wasn’t [sic] doing what I want you to do, I’m the greatest, I’m determined to win no matter what,’

“Mentally, I don’t think they were strong enough to handle that, because Phil Jackson is a laid-back coach. Michael is more like, ‘I’m going to do it, watch me be famous.’ I didn’t care because I was already famous,” 

Rodman said his former teammates do not possess the right amount of mental toughness to withstand the criticism from Jordan or the documentary, which is the very reason why they shouldn’t be mad about it. Rodman also said he wasn’t affected by how he was portrayed in “The Last Dance.”

Pippen and Horace Grant are both reportedly pissy about how they were portrayed in The Last Dance documentary. Rodman says that he was fine with how he was portrayed because he was mentally tough. Not sure if it was quite apples to apples. In the doc Horace Grant was called a snitch and a rat. Pippen's moments were mostly about crying about his contract, quitting on his team in the playoffs, sitting out because of a migraine juxtaposed to MJ getting 37 in the flu game, and having back spasms in game 6 of the 1998 Finals. 

Rodman highlights in the doc:

"one of the smartest players I ever played with"--Jordan

He was fucking one of the hottest girl on the planet at the time

"the best on-ball defender ever"--David Aldridge

Ran off to do wrestling in the middle of the NBA Finals and nobody really cared

Took a vacation to Vegas during the season because he was tired for focusing on basketball too hard while Scottie was out recovering from surgery. Rodman said he wanted to "party and fuck all the women" and people laughed. Scottie said he didn't want to fuck up his summer and some people shook their head. 

So yeah, while Dennis might be right about Horace and Scottie crying after the fact, I am not sure he is in a place to say that the doc didn't bother him because he was mentally tougher. He got the "Dennis being Dennis" treatment then and now. He was lovable and fascinating and he still is. Scottie never seemed to have that charm, or any charm and that is probably why people reacted negatively to the negative things he did in the doc.
