Ex-Homeless People Are On Reddit Explaining The Scariest Stuff They Saw. Turns Out Being Homeless Is A Fucking Nightmare.

Some of you may have already known this, some of you may not have, but it sounds like being homeless really sucks. Like not having shelter? Brutal. But that's not the worst part, it seems. Apparently your neighbors are real motherfuckers. The full page is here, but I picked out a few lowlights.

1. Talked to a guy with his throat slashed

You ever been drunk? Sure you have. Getting drunk is fun. Sometimes you get so drunk that you'll wake up with a few bruises and wonder where they came from or a person in your bed who you don't recognize. But have you ever gotten so drunk that your girlfriend slit your throat then you had a conversation with a guy while blood splurted out of your neck with each heartbeat? Not ideal!

2. People trying to steal you

Based on the size I'm assuming this is a female, and you don't have to be a homeless woman to worry about getting kidnapped, but it's one thing to be concerned about it and it's another thing to have to actually fend it off regularly. Every night thinking "ah, yes, finally time for bed" then some dude tries to shove you in his van. I saw a Criminal Minds episode about exactly this way back when and it was horrifying, but I figured that was some TV shit and not a thing that actually happened often.

Also, the tampered food thing is BULLSHIT. If you've ever done something like that you are a scumbag of the highest order. Food is a religion, fucking with it should be a hate crime.

3. Absolutely everything

When I read this I felt like Owen Wilson in Armageddon. Remember when he asks what the conditions will be like and Billy Bob replies, "200 degrees in the sunlight, minus 200 in the shade, canyons of razor-sharp rock, unpredictable gravitational conditions, unexpected eruptions, things like that" so Owen says "Scariest environment imaginable. That's all you gotta say." That was me here. "So what's being homeless like?.... Ok, your worst fucking nightmare. Got it."

4. Worst Nightmare Again

I love how this guy starts off with "Idk if this counts but when I lived in a van..." Uh, yeah man, being homeless counts in this being homeless discussion. As for the rest of it, I don't even know how you carry on with your life after hearing that. I for real don't think I'd be able to close my eyes and sleep ever again without that shit haunting me. Hope this person has got some serious therapy.

5. Stabbing

What kind of psychotic fucking teenagers are in this world?

6. Arson

Imagine this shit happening first night? You finally work up the courage to maybe seek safety in numbers and join your fellow homeless then the very first thing you witness is a guy throwing a moltov cocktail and starting a forest fire? My word.

7. Your future

I'm not going to say this is the WORST because, well, you've read this far. But this has to be up there. I imagine to survive your brain keeps telling you that this is temporary, you'll get through this, it's just a bump in the road and one day you'll still achieve the house with a picket fence, but when you meet someone whose existence tells you the exact opposite it's gotta be extremely sobering and terrifying. Has to be very hard to stay positive when there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
