Stupid Is As Stupid Does: Liberty University Reopened Its Campus A Few Days Ago And Now A Dozen Students Have Coronavirus Symptoms
A few days ago Liberty University, led by their impressively stupid President Jerry Falwell Jr., reopened their doors to 1,900 students for some unbelievably reckless reason. Caleb broke it all down here.
Falwell Jr. may very well be one of the dumbest people on Planet Earth. Here was part of his statement to the public when they reopened the college a few days ago.
"Our thinking was, 'Let's get them back as soon as we can -- the ones who want to come back,"
So let's just ignore every guideline from the CDC and your own state's governor and just let thousands of students back on campus to do their thing. Oh yeah I can't see where that would go wrong given the fact that the entire world is dealing with one of the more contagious viruses we've ever come across. Shouldn't be an issue. The university gave students an option of whether to come back or stay at home. 1,900 students showed up of about the 15,000 total student population. That's a lot of fucking people especially when we're being told to avoid gatherings of 10 or more. From what I understand all classes are still being conducted online so they opened their doors on campus for literally no reason at all other than maybe God telling them it was okay and the right thing to do.

Flash forward a few days later and upwards of a dozen students have symptoms that point to them having Covid-19. SHOCKING. Who could have possibly seen this coming? You tell kids who have been on spring break across the entire country that it's okay to come back on campus and whooops now corona is spreading amongst all of them. In a few days that number will be probably be well over a hundred with how this virus spreads.
As of Friday, Dr. Eppes said, nearly a dozen Liberty students were sick with symptoms that suggest Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. Three were referred to local hospital centers for testing. Another eight were told to self-isolate.
Falwell was one of the people who originally thought the virus was an overreaction to create some sort of political narrative. Yeah that's the guy we've got running a university. Listen to the decisions this guy made and then had to immediately change once he realized he fucked up.
Students who remained at home had to return last week to clean out their rooms, a requirement that was later relaxed. Faculty members were at first ordered back to campus, even though they would be teaching online. Then some were allowed to work from home. Mr. Falwell also waffled on whether the school would issue refunds to students who did not return for the semester, before announcing on Friday that most would receive a $1,000 credit for next year’s bills.
Making students come in times like these just to clean out their rooms. Telling teachers to come back on campus to teach online. Saying no one would get refunded money on campus living costs before telling them they'd get credit for next year's bills. This guy is actually just a mad man.
Here might be an even crazier move of all. After the 1,900 students showed and a few started to get sick, 800 of them left in panic. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? At that point you cannot let anyone leave! You self-quarantine the entire campus for two weeks. You can't just let everyone go home and be on their merry way! This shit is why we're not going to be out of the woods with coronavirus for months, maybe even a year. It truly impresses me with how poorly some people are handling this shit. Jerry Falwell should be in prison for this shit.
It's not that hard. Stay put. Stay indoors. Be smart. Wash your hands.
