'The Last of Us' Is being Made Into A Series By The Creator Of 'Chernobyl'

(THR) "Craig Mazin, the creator of the acclaimed limited series Chernobyl, is reteaming with HBO adapt The Last of Us, the massive Sony PlayStation video game franchise.

In a rare development in the world of video game adaptations, the writer and creative director of the game, Neil Druckmann, is also involved, and will work with Mazin to pen and executive produce what is intended to be a series."

This has the potential to be something fucking INCREDIBLE. 'The Last of Us' is one of the best games I've ever played in my life. The storyline is extremely compelling and original, especially considering it revolves around a genre as over-done as zombies (They're "infected" in the game, but same bullshit). On the other end of this coin, 'Chernobyl' is one of the best mini-series I've ever watched. The most I ever knew about the incident was that there was a reactor explosion, they put a steel coffin over the plant, and that you go to Pripyat in Call of Duty 4. Seeing the timeline of events, Legasov's efforts to do the right thing, and the failures at every level of the Soviet government was incredible. It was also just scary as shit seeing the effect of radiation on people.

Like it said in the excerpt, the game's writer/creative director is also going to help write the script and produce. Almost more than anything else, THAT is what convinces me this has a really good chance to succeed. Video game adaptations are, like, 0-100000 and that's partially to do with the fact that the director's vision rarely lines up with the creator of the game's vision. I hope HBO gives this all the budget it needs to be as great as it can be. Now, In the words of Carl, lets finish up with 'The Last of Us' (FULL MOVIE)
